Orcas Island 100 Mile
The Orcas Island 100 mile is a trail running event held on Orcas Island, Olga, Washington, on the ancestral land of the Lhaq’temish and Samish Peoples. The course is four 25 mile loops that traverse old growth forest and mostly single track trail, with sections that are rugged or smooth, steep climbs, and views of surrounding islands, mountains, and Puget Sound. Elevation gain is approximately 26,000 ft and the overall race cutoff is 36 hours. Weather in winter can range from rainy to snowy to sunny.
Runners are supported by 15 aid stations stocked with water, gels, electrolyte drink, fruit, hot soup and other foods; drop bags are allowed at the main aid stations. Crews are restricted on the first loop and allowed at most aid stations thereafter; pacers may join runners starting at mile 25 but may not carry gear for the runner and must register. The event includes cutoffs at aid stations and course sweeps that remove markings after cutoff.
Entrants must meet a qualifying requirement from recent organized trail ultras or complete a required day of trail work or submit a minimum donation for trail stewardship. Camp Moran at Moran State Park serves as race headquarters with rustic bunkhouse lodging options available for the weekend. All finishers receive a belt buckle and all participants receive a race hoodie. A Tower Club award is available for runners who reach the Mt Constitution tower on every loop.
