Old Gabe - Bozeman, MT

Old Gabe 30K and 55K

Old Gabe is a mountain trail race on 100% singletrack with very little flat terrain. Two distances are offered:

  • 30K (the organizer notes this course is closer to 20 miles)
  • 55K (an M-shape out-and-back with multiple climbs)

The longer course includes several significant climbs that result in more than 10,000 feet of vertical gain overall. The route departs from Middle Cottonwood Trailhead and passes Saddle Pass, Truman Gulch, South Bostwick Canyon, and Sypes Canyon before returning to Middle Cottonwood. Terrain features include steep, rocky descents, switchbacks, creek crossings, sections that can be muddy or snowy, and long stretches between aid points.

Runners should expect minimal aid on course; trailhead aid stations typically provide water, gels, electrolytes, and snack items. Participants are encouraged to self-support and may use drop bags. Drop bags will be delivered to Truman and Sypes trailheads on race morning and returned to Middle Cottonwood after the race.

Entry is limited to 130 runners and registrations are nonrefundable. All finishers receive an Old Gabe hat and top finishers in the longer distance receive a special award. Cutoff rules apply at aid stations, and runners should prepare for variable mountain weather. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
