Old Gabe Ultra Trail Race - Bozeman, MT
The Old Gabe is a trail ultra offering two distances: a longer 55K and a shorter 30K. The course is 100 percent singletrack trail with very little flat terrain and more than 11,000 feet of total climbing on the longer route. The full event is described as an out-and-back with an M-shaped profile and four significant climbs; much of the terrain is steep, rocky, and includes switchbacks, creek crossings, and sections where snow or mud may be present.
Aid on course is minimal and mostly located at trailheads; typical supplies include water, gels, electrolytes, and snack items. Runners are asked to plan for self-support and are encouraged to use drop bags. Drop bags delivered to the designated trailheads will be returned to the start area for post-race pickup.
The event limits entries to 130 runners and does not issue refunds. All finishers receive an OG hat, and first-place male and female 50K runners receive a special award. There are designated aid stations with cut-off times and an overall time limit for the race. The route includes sustained uphill and downhill segments and varied footing, with recommended attention to navigation and weather preparedness.
