About the Event

The Old Gabe is a trail run event in Bozeman, Montana. The event is capped at 130 registrations and refunds are not issued. All finishers will receive a hat. First place male and female 50K runners will receive a special award.

The run is named for Jim Bridger, a historical figure of the American West. The 30K distance is closer to 20 miles, and the 50K distance is closer to 34 miles. The 50K course involves approximately 11,500 feet of total climb. The event is held with the support of the Custer Gallatin National Forest.

Course Details

The start and finish location is the Middle Cottonwood Trailhead.

The course features minimal aid stations with water, gels, electrolytes, and snacks at trailheads. Runners are expected to plan for self-support.

Runners are encouraged to use drop bags, which the organization will deliver to specified trailheads (Truman and/or Sypes) on race morning. All drop bags will be returned to the Middle Cottonwood Trailhead after the race.

There is a 50K cut-off at the Middle Cottonwood trailhead at 12:00 PM and at the Sypes Trailhead at 3:00 PM.

The course involves creek crossings and travel on marked trails. Runners must not cut switchbacks or litter and should share the trail with other users.
