Old Gabe - Bozeman, MT
Old Gabe is a trail running event near the Middle Cottonwood Trailhead in Bozeman, Montana. The event offers the following distances:
- 50K
- 30K
The field is limited to 130 registrations and refunds are not issued. All finishers receive an OG hat. First place male and female finishers in the 50K receive a special award. The event receives support from the Custer Gallatin National Forest.
The course follows marked trails and uses a looped routing that starts and finishes at Middle Cottonwood, travels north to Truman Gulch, returns to Middle Cottonwood for the 30K finish, and continues south to Sypes Canyon for the 50K. Runners should expect aid at the Saddle around 3 miles, at Truman Gulch trailhead, at Sypes Saddle near 4 miles on that section, and at Sypes Canyon trailhead. Drop bags can be delivered to Truman and/or Sypes trailheads on race morning and are returned to Middle Cottonwood after the race.
The organizer notes the 30K measures closer to 20 miles rather than 18.6, and the 50K measures closer to 34 miles than 31. Climbing on the 50K totals approximately 11,500'. Aid on course is minimal and runners should plan to self-support. Rules emphasize staying on marked trails, not cutting switchbacks, avoiding litter, assisting other runners as needed, and sharing the trail. Parking should leave the Forest Service road passable and carpooling is encouraged. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
