Old Dominion 100 Mile Endurance Run
The Old Dominion is a measured loop course in Fort Valley, Virginia, that runs through the Massanutten Mountains and the Shenandoah River Valley. The event covers a distance of 100 miles and includes 14 significant climbs with about 14,000 feet of elevation gain. The course traverses many surfaces, including pavement, gravel roads, single track trails, ATV trails, logging roads, rock sections, streams, and mud.
The event is organized by volunteers and operates without sponsors. There are 23 aid stations, multiple crew access points, and a large volunteer staff to support runners along the route. The format includes time cutoffs: completion under 24 hours earns a silver buckle and there is a 28 hour limit to finish.
The Old Dominion emphasizes tradition. It has been held since 1979 and is described as a test of individual endurance across varied terrain and conditions. The course is described as a fair test of endurance and is part of the Grand Slam of Ultrarunning series. The event typically takes place on the first weekend in June, with the next scheduled date on June 6, 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
