Ode to Laz Michigan Backyard Ultra
The Ode to Laz Michigan Backyard Ultra is a Last Person Standing backyard ultra held in Holly, Michigan, at Holly State Recreation Area. The main course is a repeating 4.167-mile trail loop with about 350 feet of climbing. The loop surface is roughly two thirds technical single track, one third moderate walking/hiking path, and includes a few hundred yards of pavement. At night the event switches to a closed park road loop with about 250 feet of climbing for a period before returning to the trail.
Runners must be standing at the start line each hour to begin the next lap and complete each lap within the hour. Contestants provide their own aid; pacers are not permitted but crew is allowed and may leave and return. No hiking poles or headphones are permitted on the trails. Water is provided and alcohol is permitted, though glass containers are prohibited.
Packet pickup occurs race morning at assigned starting areas. Parking for one vehicle overnight is available for full event entrants and limited 10'x10' canopy or tent spaces are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. McGinnis campground is available for camping and additional daytime parking is provided for supporters.
On-site runners receive prize gifts chosen at registration. The event awards a champion's jacket and a free individual entry for the following 12 months to the last runner standing. Virtual entrants are not eligible for prizes or at-large backyard rankings. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
