Tails & Trails 5K

The Tails & Trails event is a community running event in its third annual year at Independence Oaks, 9501 Sashabaw Road, Clarkston, MI 48348. The program includes a 5K race and a Cat Walk 1K for children. Dogs and cats are welcome to participate alongside their owners provided they have a current license and are kept on a 6 foot leash; owners must keep control of their pets at all times. The event is open to walkers and runners of all ages.

Distances:

  • 5K
  • 1K (Cat Walk)

Registration opens on November 3, 2025 and closes on August 16, 2026. Registration fees are listed as $25.00 for the 5K and $15.00 for the 1K. All participants will receive a race medal; if organizers run out of medals, a medal will be mailed after the race. T-shirts are distributed while supplies last.

A family fun zone and other onsite activities will run during the event. Local animal-related businesses such as markets and groomers will be present. The event raises funds through donations for two animal rescues: Great Lakes Dog Rescue, which rescues adoptable dogs and provides shelter and medical care, and Teachers Pet, a 501(c)(3) that facilitates animal assisted interventions for vulnerable populations and works to improve dog adoptability.
