North Yorks Ultra Challenge

The North Yorks Ultra Challenge takes place along the North Yorkshire coast and through the North York mountains. The event follows a circular route starting and finishing at the Scarborough basecamp, a seaside location known for its historical spa. Participants can choose to walk, jog, or run the course, which includes varied terrain such as coastal paths, moorland, and forests.

The route heads north from Scarborough along the Cleveland Way, passing Robin Hood's Bay before reaching Whitby. For those completing the longer distances, the path turns inland through the Esk Valley and into the North York Moors. The return leg passes through Moors Park Forest and follows the Tabular Hills Walk to return to the basecamp.

Available distances include:

  • 100 km
  • 50 km
  • 25 km
  • 10 mile (Whitby route)

The event provides comprehensive support throughout the journey. Marquee rest stops are positioned approximately every 12.5 km, offering food, drinks, and medical services. Major rest stops located at the 25 km, 50 km, and 75 km marks include covered infrastructure with seating, toilets, and changing rooms. The course is marked with pink arrows and glow-sticks for nighttime navigation, and participants are monitored via a timing system and GPS tracking.

Additional facilities at the Scarborough basecamp include camping packages with hot showers and chill-out areas. Shuttle buses operate between the event site and the nearest train station for travel assistance. Each finisher receives a medal and a T-shirt upon completing their distance.
