North Yorks Ultra Challenge
The North Yorks Ultra Challenge is an event offering multiple distances. It takes place on 20-21 June 2026, with a basecamp in Scarborough. Participants can walk, jog, or run the routes.
The event offers a choice of distances:
- Full Continuous ~100 km
- Full 2 Day 'Daylight' ~100 km
- 1st 1/2 Challenge ~50 km
- 2nd 1/2 Challenge ~50 km
- Scarborough 25 km Loop
- The Whitby 10 Mile
The ~100 km route is a loop starting and finishing in Scarborough. It goes north along the Cleveland Way coastline past Robin Hood's Bay to Whitby, known for its abbey. For the full distance, the route then goes inland through the Esk Valley and south into moorland scenery, passing through Moors Park Forest and joining the Tabular Hills Walk back to Scarborough. The 50 km distances cover either the coastal section to Whitby or the inland moorland section back to Scarborough.
Event support includes fully signed routes, regular rest stops with food and drinks, medical and massage teams, and GPS tracking via an app. For those attempting the 100 km distance over two days, optional camping packages are available at the basecamp or at the halfway point in Whitby. A celebration with a finisher's meal awaits participants at the end.
New for 2026 are the Ultra Trailblazerz® category for faster, competitive runners and the Ultra March® option for walkers aiming to complete 100 km in under 24 hours or 50 km in under 12 hours. There is also a solo start time option. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
