Event overview

The North Yorks Ultra Challenge takes place on 20-21 June 2026 with Scarborough as basecamp. Routes use the town coastline and Cleveland Way, passing Robin Hood Bay and Whitby as a halfway point on the coast, then inland along the Esk Valley and across North York Moors terrain including Moors Park Forest and sections of the Tabular Hills Walk. The event offers multiple distance options and camping at Scarborough and Whitby.

Distances

  • 100 km - Full continuous option; ~2,270 m total climb.
  • 100 km (2-day) - Split over two days, ~50 km each day; climbs ~1,260 m and ~1,010 m.
  • 50 km - Half challenge, Scarborough to Whitby; ~1,260 m climb.
  • 25 km - Scarborough loop; ~450 m climb.
  • 10 miles - Whitby town and coast loop; ~330 m climb.

Format and support

Options include solo starts, a Trailblazerz category for faster runners, and an Ultra March category for walkers aiming for set time targets. Rest stops are covered and provided approximately every 12.5 km, with major stops at about 25/50/75/100 km. Food and drink are included at snack and meal intervals, with hot and cold options and dietary accommodations. The route is fully signed with GPS mapping in the event app and electronic scanning at rest stops. Medical, podiatry and massage teams operate at rest stops and along the route. Enjoy the Winter Trail Runs at Dalby Forest on 30 November 2025 with scenic forest trails and North York Moors views. Choose 10k, half or full marathon with live chip timing and a finisher medal. Well controlled dogs on a lead are welcome.

Explore Coatham Woods near Eaglescliffe in CLOK's regional orienteering event at Birk Brow and Skelton Warren on Sunday 14 Dec. Routes from beginner white to challenging brown suit all abilities, dogs welcome and limited entries on the day.

Hardmoors 15 starts and finishes in Robin Hood's Bay, a scenic 17.5 mile circular trail with coastal views and about 1700 ft of ascent. The event is shown as full; finishers receive a medal and a Hardmoors technical T shirt.

Take on the Hardmoors 30, a scenic but demanding 30 mile winter trail from Robin Hoods Bay along the Cleveland Way to Scarborough. Expect rugged moorland, dramatic sea views and a true test of endurance.
