The North Yorks Ultra Challenge takes place on 20-21 June 2026 with basecamp in Scarborough. The event offers multi-day and single-day formats on coastal and moorland terrain around the North Yorkshire coast and moors. Distances range from short town loops to a full continuous 100 km route.

Course and distances

The route passes Scarborough town and beaches, past the castle, then north along the Cleveland Way through Robin Hood Bay to Whitby, which serves as a 50 km halfway stop. Full 100 km participants continue inland along the Esk Valley, through moorland and Moors Park Forest, and join the Tabular Hills Walk back to Scarborough.

Distances offered include:

  • 100 km - full continuous loop, ~2,270 m climb
  • 100 km - two-day option, ~50 km each day (~1,260 m then ~1,010 m climb)
  • ~50 km - first half Scarborough to Whitby, ~1,260 m climb
  • ~50 km - second half Whitby to Scarborough, ~1,010 m climb
  • ~25 km - Scarborough basecamp loop, ~450 m climb
  • 10 miles - Whitby 10 Mile, ~330 m climb
  • 10 km

Support and entry options

Rest stops occur roughly every 12.5 km with major stops at about 25/50/75/100 km; stops provide snacks, meals, hot and cold drinks, medical and podiatry services, and covered facilities. The route is signed and supported with GPS tracking. Camping packages and shuttle transfers are available. Entry can be self-funded or via several charity fundraising options; published self-fund registration fees are listed by distance. A 5 mile night trail race through single tracks and forest trails in Dalby Forest, North Yorkshire. Organised by Trail Blazing Events with tickets priced at £16.90.

Explore Wilton Woods and Lazenby Bank East at a regional orienteering event on Sunday 25 January 2026. Varied courses for all abilities, car sharing encouraged, and a few on the day entries may be available subject to map availability.

Tackle a challenging 10.4 km trail through the North York Moors, starting from St Helens Church in Carlin How with 350 m of climbing and great moorland views. Entry on the day for up to 120 runners makes it a lively local race.

Trails & Tails in Driffield offers scenic 4 and 8 mile trail runs for runners and Canicrossers with chip timing, medals, prizes and dog awards. The event is at Field House Farm and includes parking, toilets and post-run food.
