North Yorks Ultra Challenge - Event overview
The North Yorks Ultra Challenge takes place on 20-21 June 2026 with basecamp in Scarborough. Participants may walk, jog or run and choose from multiple distance options. Options include:
- 100 km full challenge (continuous or split over 2 days)
- 50 km half challenge
- 25 km Scarborough loop
- 10 mile Whitby town and coast loop
There are specialist categories: an Ultra March category for walkers, and a Trailblazerz™ category for faster, competitive runners. Camping and transfers are available at Scarborough and Whitby.
Route, elevation and support
The route follows a coast and moors loop from Scarborough, along town beaches and past the castle, north on the Cleveland Way through Robin Hood Bay to Whitby (50 km halfway point). Full 100 km runners then head inland along the Esk Valley, across moorland and through Moors Park Forest, joining the Tabular Hills Walk back to Scarborough. The continuous 100 km option shows about 2,270 m total climb. Two-day splits list ~1,260 m climb for the first ~50 km and ~1,010 m for the second ~50 km. The 25 km loop has ~450 m climb and the Whitby 10 mile about 330 m.
Support includes covered rest stops every ~12.5 km with major stops at ~25/50/75/100 km, catering, medical, podiatry and massage services, route signage and GPS tracking, timing scans at rest stops, camping packages with showers, and shuttle transfers.
