North Yorks Ultra Challenge : Scarborough basecamp and coastal route
The event is based in Scarborough with a route that follows town beaches and the Cleveland Way north through Robin Hood Bay to Whitby. Whitby Abbey hosts the main 50 km basecamp and midway stop. Full 100 km participants continue inland along the Esk Valley, through moorland and Moors Park Forest, then join the Tabular Hills Walk back to Scarborough.
Multiple supported distances are offered:
- 100 km full challenge across two days
- 50 km
- ~25 km
- Whitby 25 km and 10 Mile options
Participants have access to covered rest stops approximately every 12.5 km, with major stops around 25, 50, 75 and 100 km. Each stop provides snacks, meals roughly every 25 km, hot drinks, water and energy drinks; catering covers dietary requirements and lighter options for runners. Rest stops include medical areas, toilets, changing rooms, baggage pick-up and seating.
The route is clearly marked with arrows and glow-sticks for night sections, and GPS tracking is available through the event app. Timing scans at rest stops log progress. On-course medical support includes doctors, paramedics, first aid, podiatrists and massage teams. Camping packages are available at base camp with showers and chill areas. Shuttle buses, transfers and parking are provided. Finishers receive a medal, t shirt, a finisher’s meal and a post-finish celebration. Registration for 2027 is open.
