Event Overview
The North Yorks Ultra Challenge is a two-day trek and trail run event held on the 20th and 21st of June 2026 in North Yorkshire. The basecamp is in Scarborough.
Distances
The event offers several distances:
- Full Continuous ~100 km loop
- Full 2-Day ~100 km (split into two ~50 km days)
- 1st Half Challenge ~50 km (Scarborough to Whitby)
- 2nd Half Challenge ~50 km (Whitby to Scarborough)
- Scarborough 25 km Loop
- Whitby 10 Mile loop
A new Ultra Trailblazerz category is available for faster, competitive runners aiming for a set time goal. There is also an Ultra March category for walkers aiming to complete 100 km in under 24 hours or 50 km in under 12 hours.
Route Details
The 100 km route is a loop starting and finishing in Scarborough. The first half follows the Cleveland Way north along the coastline, passing Scarborough Castle, Robin Hood's Bay, and finishing at the halfway point in Whitby. The second half turns inland along the Esk Valley into moorland scenery, passes through Moors Park Forest, joins the Tabular Hills Walk, and returns to Scarborough.
Event Support
The event includes covered rest stops approximately every 12.5 km, providing food, drinks, medical support, massage teams, and podiatrists. The route is marked and features GPS tracking available via a mobile app. Shuttle buses operate to and from the nearest train station.
Accommodation and Extras
Optional camping packages are available at the Scarborough basecamp and at the Whitby Showground for participants on the two-day option. Parking is available at the finish lines.
Participation Options
Participants can join as an individual or a team. Entry options include self-funding (paying the full registration fee) or choosing to fundraise for one of hundreds of involved charities. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
