MindOverMoors - Esk Valley Way Ultra

The event is scheduled for 1 August 2026 and is organised by Mind Over Moors. It is a point-to-point ultra that follows the official Esk Valley Way from Castleton to Whitby Harbour. The advertised distance is 36 miles and the total ascent is listed as 4,054. The route follows the River Esk and passes Danby Dale, Rosedale Head, Blakey Ridge, the remains of Esklets, Westerdale, Danby, Lealholm, Glaisdale, Egton Bridge and Grosmont before finishing beneath the Abbey ruins at Whitby Harbour. The race start and registration are at Castleton cricket pitch (subject to no home fixtures).

Entry, navigation and support

Entries open 5 October 2025 and close 1 July 2026. Entry is limited to 100 and the minimum age is 20. Entry fees are listed as Affiliated £57 and Unaffiliated £59; coach transfer fee £20 and optional t-shirt £12. The event is fully tracked and provides Open trackers. The course is way marked with GPX and Strava routes available, Premium OpenTracking GPS tracking with live timing and splits, and tape in areas of possible confusion.

Five checkpoints provide basic food and drinks and toilet facilities at or near them. Mandatory kit includes a waterproof jacket with taped seams, hats and gloves (buff allowed), capacity to carry 500 ml fluid, a fully charged phone with the race director’s contact, a survival bag and a whistle.
