North Queensland Cross Country Championships : Cannon Valley, QLD

The fourth annual North Queensland Cross Country Championships takes place on 12 April 2026 at the future Whitsunday Regional Sports Precinct opposite Brandy Creek Road in Cannon Valley, approximately halfway between Proserpine and Airlie Beach.

The program comprises eight races that cover multiple age groups. Courses are new for 2026 and combine a mixture of surfaces, elevations, bends and long straights. The layout includes several vantage points for spectators and coaches.

Age categories are determined by each competitor's age on the day. The event welcomes individual and club entries across a wide age range, with entries accepted for competitors aged from 4 to 100 years.

Distances include both junior and senior options, and there is a team relay that uses repeated 2 km laps. Junior races use shorter course lengths that vary by age group, while open and senior categories run longer distances.

Trail runs nearby

A rugged roughly 24 km trail race on Hamilton Island with sustained uphill and downhill sections, individual and team relay options, plus junior races of 3 km 1.5 km and 500 m for younger runners.

A beach run on Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays on May 24 2026, offering 21.1 km, 10 km, 5 km and junior distances. Adult entries list fees at $150 and junior entries at $60.
