Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon
The Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon is an endurance running event held on Hamilton Island in the Great Barrier Reef. The main race follows a rugged route of approximately 24 km through the island's interior, utilizing a combination of fire trails and newly developed walking tracks. The course features a diverse range of terrain with significant uphill and downhill sections.
Participants can choose from several event categories:
- 24 km Individual (Open and Age Group categories)
- 24 km Team Relay (teams of 2 or 3 people)
- 3 km Junior Race
- 1.5 km Junior Race
- 500 m Junior Race
The junior events take place on a flat course designed to be fast and accessible for younger runners. Individual competitors for the full distance must be at least 16 years old, while team members must be at least 14 years old. The junior category is open to those aged 4 to 15 years.
The event weekend includes a pre-race parkrun and a post-race recovery run. Registered competitors traveling from the mainland can access complimentary ferry transfers from Shute Harbour to the Hamilton Island Marina, with discounted fares available for their travel companions. Race packs, including an event singlet, are provided to all participants during mandatory registration sessions held at the Beach Pavilion.
