Event overview

The Hamilton Island Hilly Half Marathon takes place on Hamilton Island, Great Barrier Reef, in early May 2026. The main course is a rugged, roughly 24 km route that uses fire trails and walking tracks through the island’s undulating interior. The route includes a variety of terrain with sustained uphill and downhill sections. A separate, flatter kids course offers shorter, kinder distances.

Entries, categories and event details

Entry fees listed in the event information are: individual $135, team $85 per competitor, junior $60. Categories include individual open and age groups, open team relays (male, female, mixed), and junior races. Minimum ages are specified for individual, team and junior competitors in the event material. Race pack collection is compulsory at the Beach Pavilion on the day before and on race day. Mp3 use is permitted with only one earphone. Withdrawals before the event must be submitted in writing; same-day or in-race withdrawals incur a 100% cancellation fee. Complimentary ferry transfers between Shute Harbour and Hamilton Island Marina are available for competitors, with a discounted fare offered for certain travel companions; competitors are checked on boarding and issued wristbands for the return trip. Trail runs nearby

Run the white sands of Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays on 22 June 2025. Distances range from a half marathon to fun junior sprints, with competitor transfers to and from the beach included. Beach running is a unique seaside challenge.

Run scenic trails in Conway National Park and finish on the Airlie Beach foreshore at Anaconda Whitsunday Trail Fest. With ultras, shorter trail distances and family friendly beach and kids events, it is a perfect September weekend.
