North Fork 50 Mile
Buffalo Creek, United States • 30 May 2026
Event details
The North Fork 50 Mile/50K takes place Saturday, May 30, 2026 in Buffalo Creek, Colorado (Buffalo Creek Clubhouse, 18050 S Buffalo Creek Rd). Distances offered:
- 50 Mile
- 50K (31.1 Miles)
Both races are trail ultramarathons in the Pike National Forest, about 50 miles southwest of Denver. A portion of race proceeds benefits the North Fork Volunteer Fire Department; additional beneficiaries named for the 50K include ProjectPurple.org and Conifer’s StageDoor Theatre.
All finishers receive a commemorative award; special awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. A post-race festival includes a food truck offering meals (runners and volunteers receive a free meal) and beverages for participants and spectators.
Course and logistics
Both courses are 100% soft surface, primarily singletrack with some short double-track sections. The 50K is one loop; routes pass through ponderosa pine forest, areas burned in the 1996 Buffalo Creek fire, and sections with granite rock formations and mountain views. Key elevation figures:
- 50 Mile: total elevation gain about 6,425 feet; maximum elevation about 8,535 feet; time limit 14 hours.
- 50K: total elevation gain about 3,670 feet; maximum elevation about 8,150 feet; time limit 13 hours.
Aid stations are located at named points (for example Colorado Trail, Shinglemill, Tramway, Buffalo, Homestead, Finish) and provide water, hydration, food, and limited crew access or drop-bag support depending on location. Pacers are not allowed; family or friends may accompany runners for the final mile along Buffalo Creek Road. Course markings use orange-and-black ribbons and flags; blue-and-white checkered ribbons indicate the wrong way. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
