North Fork 50 Ultras
The North Fork 50 Ultras consist of two mountain trail races located in the Buffalo Creek Recreation Area of the Pike National Forest. The event takes place southwest of Denver, Colorado. Both courses are held on 100% soft surfaces, utilizing singletrack trails and small portions of double track road.
Participants travel through different landscapes, including forest areas recovering from a 1996 fire and sections of ponderosa pines. The terrain features granite rock formations and views of the surrounding mountains. The 50K course follows a single loop, while the 50 mile course covers additional mileage within the trail system.
The following distances are available:
- 50 Mile: Includes approximately 6,425 feet of elevation gain with a maximum elevation of 8,535 feet.
- 50K: Includes approximately 3,670 feet of elevation gain with a maximum elevation of 8,150 feet.
Both races have specific time limits for completion. The courses are marked with orange and black polka-dot ribbons and orange pin flags. Aid stations along the route provide hydration and food, with some locations accessible to crews. Drop bags are permitted at the Buffalo aid station. Finishers receive a commemorative award, and a post-race festival features food and drinks. A portion of the proceeds supports local organizations, including the North Fork Volunteer Fire Department.
