Norfolk Land Trust Trail Race Series / Haystack Mountain Challenge

The event takes place in Norfolk, Connecticut at Norbrook Farm and Barbour Woods on October 4, 2026. It is the 13th annual iteration and offers trail races over multiple distances with varied surfaces, private-trail sections, and substantial elevation on the longest course.

Registration is handled online only, including on race day. Registration open and close dates are listed for 2026; standard registration fees are shown for each distance. Group rates are offered for four registrations when made in the same transaction.

Course summaries:

  • 5K course follows single and double track, carriage roads, a railroad-bed stretch, woodland climbs, and the Swamp Trail to the finish.
  • 10K follows the 5K route with an added loop over Haystack Mountain, includes a meadow ascent, single-track summit and carriage-path descent.
  • Half Marathon expands on the 10K with additional public and private trails, includes two ascents of Haystack, and records over 2000 feet of elevation gain.

Additional event details: the half marathon has a cutoff at about 8 miles (approximately 2 hours 8 minutes); runners past this point may be routed to a finish that forgoes a second summit or be offered a ride back. The event is cupless; runners should provide their own water while limited water stations will be available. All runners receive a slice of pizza from Pete-za and Norbrook Farm Brewery will offer beverages for sale. Leashed pets are not allowed on the course except service animals under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
