The Cross-Connecticut Run for Mental Health Awareness
The Cross-Connecticut Run for Mental Health Awareness is an annual group running challenge that will traverse Connecticut north to south along the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. The 8th edition covers roughly 56 miles, beginning at the northern end of the trail in West Suffield and finishing at the harbor in New Haven. The route passes through rural, suburban, and urban areas and is described as very flat and paved for most of the distance.
The event is a fundraiser for Mental Health Connecticut. There is no event fee, but participants are asked to donate or raise donations, with a suggested donation of $56 mentioned as an example.
This trek is unsupported. Runners receive a digital map with mile markers that correspond to convenience stores and other stops, and a few very basic volunteer aid stations may be available. Aid stations will operate with limited staffing and runners should bring a personal cup. Participants are encouraged to run with a crew or coordinate group support.
All runners must be confident they can complete the roughly 56 mile journey on foot and on their own. There is a 14 hour time limit for completion, and runners who are not near the Stop & Shop Plaza in Hamden (approx. mile 50) by 12 hours may be removed for safety. Participants must arrange transportation to the start and from the finish, carry a headlamp and spare batteries, have hydration, and maintain a backup plan for emergencies. Runners are responsible for their own health, safety, and transportation if they stop early.
Organizers note that finishers will earn unique bragging rights and that additional details about aid or swag depend on available donations and volunteers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
