Soapstone Assault
Somers, United States • 26 Jul 2026
Event Overview
The Soapstone Assault is a trail race located at Soapstone Mountain within the Shenipsit State Forest. The course is approximately 5.5 miles long and follows a circuit around the base of the mountain. Participants begin the race at the trail head sign near the blue-blazed trail entrance and proceed in a counterclockwise direction.
Course Details
The route serves as a hill-focused event where runners climb to the peak of Soapstone Mountain a total of six times. As runners circumnavigate the base, they take every trail they encounter that leads upward to the summit. After reaching the peak, participants descend using the same trail to return to the base circuit and continue the loop.
This up-and-down sequence is repeated for the first five trails encountered. The sixth and final ascent follows the "Killer Hill" trail. The race concludes at the base of the mountain tower. The terrain includes sections that are steep, rocky, and slippery. Because certain areas of the course are relatively inaccessible, emergency medical response times may be delayed.
Participation and Registration
Online registration is required for this event, and the race is limited to pre-registered participants. Registration typically closes at the end of July. The event starts at the Gulf Road parking lot in Somers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
