Soapstone Assault

Soapstone Assault is a trail race organized by the Shenipsit Striders at Soapstone Mountain in Somers, CT. The course is 5.5 miles long and includes six ascents of the mountain, with the final climb up Killer Hill on the powerline trail and the finish located at the base of the fire tower.

The route sends runners around the base of the mountain in a counterclockwise loop. Each time a trail leads upward runners take it to the peak and return the same way before continuing. The first two climbs end at the fire tower and do not have aid station access. There is a cupless water stop that is accessible from climbs three, four, and five.

The course contains steep, rocky, slippery, and otherwise treacherous areas. Because some sections are relatively inaccessible, a seriously injured runner could face a long wait for emergency care. Entrants are expected to accept responsibility for their own safety and the risks on the course.

The event is capped at 50 runners to address parking and safety concerns. Online registration is required and there will be no race day registration. Parking is at the Shenipsit State Forest lot at 360 Gulf Road and volunteers will direct additional parking; participants are asked not to park on Gulf Road or Sodom Road.
