Soapstone Assault
Somers, United States • 26 Jul 2026
Event
Soapstone Assault is a trail race held at Soapstone Mountain in Shenipsit State Forest, Somers, Connecticut. The course measures 5.5 miles and includes six separate ascents of the mountain, totaling about 1,500 feet of climbing. The race is scheduled for Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Course and safety
Runners start at the trail head sign just before the blue-blazed trail. The route circumnavigates the base of Soapstone Mountain in a counterclockwise direction. Each time a trail heading upward is encountered, runners take it to the peak and return down the same trail to continue the circuit. The first five climbs use different marked trails; the sixth climb is the powerline trail known as "Killer Hill" and the course finishes at the base of the tower. The course includes steep, rocky, slippery, and otherwise treacherous sections. The first two climbs end at the fire tower and do not have aid station access. A cupless water stop is accessible from climbs 3, 4, and 5. Because some sections are relatively inaccessible, emergency response time could be lengthy.
Registration and logistics
Online registration is required and opens January 1, 2026; there will be no race-day registration. Paid members of the organizing club receive a discount code for registration. Due to parking and public-safety limits the event is capped at 50 runners. Parking is at the Gulf Road lot at the base of the mountain, with volunteers directing additional parking at the top as needed; participants must follow parking instructions and avoid parking on Gulf or Sodom roads. Post-race food will be available near the aid station. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
