About the race

The Connecticut Ultra Traverse (CUT) is a point-to-point trail running event that crosses the state of Connecticut. Participants follow the Blue Blazes of the New England Trail (NET) starting from the Massachusetts border and finishing at the Long Island Sound in Guilford. The course features technical singletrack along traprock ridges and includes approximately 16,722 feet of vertical gain.

The event offers two distance options:

  • 112 miles: A full traverse from the MA-CT border to the coast, intended to be completed in one continuous effort.
  • 50 miles: Known as "The BUT," this route follows the final section of the 112-mile course, beginning at the Berlin Turnpike and following the Mattabesset and Menuncatuck trails.

The route is not specifically marked for the race; runners must navigate using the existing blue blazes of the Connecticut Forest and Parks Association (CFPA). The course passes through various landmarks and parks, including Penwood State Park, Rattlesnake Mountain, Ragged Mountain, and Cockaponset State Forest.

This event operates as a self-supported challenge where runners are responsible for arranging their own safety and support. Participants must have a dedicated crew to act as a rolling aid station at road crossings. All roads remain open to traffic, and runners are required to use reflective gear. Finishers of the 112-mile distance receive a buckle, and all participants receive event mementos. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
