Northern Nipmuck Trail Race
The Northern Nipmuck Trail Race is a trail event held in Union, CT on March 28, 2027, organized by the Shenipsit Striders. The advertised distance is 16 miles, though the course may measure a little less due to technical trail terrain and elevation.
Parking is at Bigelow Hollow State Park and the race start is located across the road from the park. A marked trail from the parking area reduces road walking. The route follows the Nipmuck Trail south through the Yale-Myers Forest, crosses Barlow Mill Road at about four miles (Two Pipes), continues to a turnaround at Boston Hollow near the eight mile mark, and returns on the same route. The course is blazed blue with additional flagging at tricky spots. Runners are responsible for navigation. Minimal aid will be available at miles 4, 8, and 12.
There is no race day registration; organizers use a waitlist and parking limits the field size. Registration opens January 1, 2027. The event does not offer awards or swag. Proceeds after costs are donated to organizations that support local trail stewardship, and proceeds from a prior running helped fund a bridge at the north end of Breakneck Pond.
