Event overview
The Macedonia Trail Race, established in 2019, is a multi-distance trail event held each September at Macedonia Brook State Park in Kent, Connecticut. Distances offered include:
- 50K
- 25K
- 12K
The 25K is part of the Blue Blazed Trail Running Series in Connecticut. Race headquarters and the main pavilion are located at 159 Macedonia Brook Rd, Kent, CT.
Course, logistics and rules
The 12K begins next to the main pavilion, follows Macedonia Brook Rd. to a blue-blazed trail entrance, then runs the blue trail counter-clockwise. The route includes an initial road section (0.4 miles), a long climb before the first major descent (just over 2 miles), rolling technical single track, a climb up Cobble Mountain near mile 5 with a western viewpoint, and a final descent back to Macedonia Brook Rd. The 25K is two loops of the 12K plus a short out-and-back and totals 3,500+ feet of elevation. The 50K is a three-loop course that includes three climbs of Cobble Mountain and about 7,000+ feet of elevation.
Aid stations provide water, electrolyte drink, and typical food items; the event is cupless, so runners must carry their own hydration. An aid station is located at Weber Road (about halfway through the 12K loop) and at the end of each loop near the start/finish. There are finisher medals and podium awards, a post-race spread of non-alcoholic food and drinks, a no-refund/no-transfer policy, and race rules covering littering, course marking, withdrawals, smoking, alcohol, and discouraged use of music devices. Parking is near the pavilion in gravel or grassy areas; parking on Macedonia Rd is not allowed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
