Macedonia Trail Race : Kent, Connecticut
The Macedonia Trail Race is held at Macedonia Brook State Park near Kent, Connecticut. The event offers three trail distances on mostly singletrack through forested terrain, with notable climbs, technical descents and several viewpoints along the course.
The course begins on Macedonia Brook Road near the pavilion and ranger station. The first 0.4 mile is on road before entering the blue-blazed singletrack run in a counter-clockwise direction. The route includes a sustained climb followed by a major descent just over two miles in, rolling technical sections with short road crossings, and a climb up Cobble Mountain with a west-facing viewpoint where, on a clear day, the Catskill Mountains can be seen. The final approach returns to Macedonia Brook Road and finishes on the grass near the pavilion.
Distances and course format:
- 12K
- 25K, two loops of the 12K course plus a short out-and-back, approximately 3500+ feet of elevation
- 50K, three loops using additional park trails, includes three climbs of Cobble Mountain, approximately 7000+ feet of elevation
The 25K is part of the Blue Blazed Trail Running Series on the Blue-Blazed Hiking Trails, which are maintained by the Connecticut Forest and Park Association. The event policy states there are no refunds or transfers of registration. Hikers and walkers are permitted in the 12K. Awards include finisher medals and top three male and female overall prizes for each distance. Post-race provisions listed include bagels, bananas, pizza and non-alcoholic hydration.
