NoMad Ultra
The NoMad Ultra is a multi-terrain running event held in Derbyshire, primarily following the Derby Nomad waymarked trail. The course features a circular route through scenic rolling countryside, incorporating canal paths, trails, fields, and some road sections. The event base is located in a race village in Breaston, which includes registration, toilets, and a start/finish area with refreshments.
Participants can choose from three main options:
- 50 mile (80 km) ultra
- 50 km (32 mile) ultra
- Team Relay (6 person teams)
The 50 mile course involves total elevation gains of approximately 605 meters. The 50 km route follows the early and late sections of the longer path but traverses through the center of the city of Derby along the old Derby canal and River Derwent. Relay teams cover the full 50 mile course, with individual legs ranging between 5.25 and 10 miles.
This event is sanctioned by the Trail Running Association and follows UKA rules. It is specifically for runners and is not a walking event. To participate in either of the ultra distances, individuals must provide proof of having completed at least one marathon distance event. Competitors are expected to be self-sufficient and possess intermediate navigation skills, as the route requires following waymarkers and provided maps or GPX files. GPS tracking is utilized for results, and the 50 mile and 50 km distances have time limits of 13 and 10 hours respectively. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
