Course, formats, and requirements

The course is unpublished and includes extended off-trail navigation, occasional dirt roads, and faint trail segments. Navigation and self-reliance are emphasized: GPS is not allowed on course, phones are for emergency use only, and participants must be able to use a paper map and compass or follow another registered navigator. Participants receive official course materials and logistical dispatches only after acceptance.

Mandatory gear includes a course map, whistle, emergency blanket or bivy, headlamp/flashlight, at least 2 L of fluids, a light jacket, and 12 hours of calories.
