Niwot's Challenge
Sedalia, United States • 2 May 2026
Niwot’s Challenge is the 13th annual invitation-only endurance ordeal along the South Platte River in Sedalia, Colorado. It offers three non-standard distances: a ~24-mile Burn Loop (16 hours), a ~50-mile Chief’s Loop (30 hours), and an ~100-mile Deity loop (60 hours). It is not a race but a transformative test of will, featuring significant off-trail navigation, minimal aid, and no GPS.
The course is unpublished; participants navigate with map and compass and collect codes at Sacred Waypoints. Entry is by invitation with a cap of 40. Notable features include book settings to plant clues, a Tribal Council, and a $1,000 Deity prize.
Atmosphere includes irreverence and a community of dirtbag philosophers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
