Summer Night Owl
Summer Night Owl is a night trail race held at Caesar Creek State Park in Waynesville, Ohio. The event offers three distances:
- Full marathon
- Half marathon
- 10K
The course follows mostly single track trails around Caesar Creek Lake, using a combination of the yellow perimeter loop and the red and green trails near Wellman Meadow. Trails are heavily wooded and feature rolling terrain with several back to back rollers on parts of the half and marathon loops. Trail conditions depend on weather and can range from runnable when dry to very muddy after wet conditions. Some sections use the wide road shoulder on North Clarksville and Route 73; runners must remain in the shoulder and no more than two abreast where roads are open to traffic.
There are four aid stations: Wellman Meadow (10K turnaround, manned initially then unmanned), Fifty Springs (fully stocked), Day Lodge (water and limited nutrition), and Start/Finish (fully stocked with warm food and vegan options). This is a cupless race and participants must carry a collapsible cup for drinks.
Mandatory gear includes a headlamp or waist light with extra batteries, a water bottle or bladder, a collapsible cup, and a fully charged cell phone. Cutoffs are in place for safety and will be strictly enforced. Finishers receive glow in the dark owl medals and all registrants receive event swag. The race is Trail Sisters approved and provides equal podium spots, equal prize money and awards, women specific apparel, and menstrual products at aid stations. Volunteers can earn credit toward future events. Refunds are not offered; registrations roll forward if the race is postponed. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
