New Hope Turkey Trot, Smithville, MO
New Hope Christian School organizes a self-timed trail event in the Smith's Fork recreation area near Smithville, Missouri, as a fundraiser for the New Hope Scholarship Fund. All proceeds support scholarships that help defray tuition for families with financial need. Children age five and under may participate for free.
Distances:
- 5K trail run/walk
- 1.25 miles family fun run/walk
The course begins on a former memorial cross country course and follows a tree line with several "Nature Knowledge" stations and frequent deer sightings. The full 5K continues through a seasonal campground on an asphalt road, crosses a spillway, and proceeds onto gravel and dirt trails around Lake Remote. Runners will encounter tree roots, rocks, and uneven terrain, and possible bald eagle sightings during migration. The route includes a notable uphill section followed by a technical descent, then reaches the Little Platte river bottom and a grassy bank before returning to the gravel path toward the finish. Ample parking is available near the soccer and baseball fields, with overflow parking at Grace Community Church across MO Hwy DD.
Participants who register by November 21 are entered to receive a race t-shirt and a finisher's medal. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
