Mweelrea, County Mayo

This is a mountain running event on Mweelrea in County Mayo covering 10.70 km with 766 m of ascent. The course is generally unmarked; the 1 km section from the col to the summit is marked with IMRA flags and this marked route must be followed both up and back. GPS devices are not allowed. The event forms part of the Irish Championship and the Connacht Championship and has an entry limit of 250 competitors.

The route starts and finishes at Silverstrand car park. From the start runners follow a road for about 1 km, then a farmer's track for about 500 m and pass through a gate. From that gate runners proceed independently to the col, which is the low point between two peaks. From the col the summit section is marked, and the return route is unrestricted back to the gate and down the road to Silverstrand. A faint track from the gate brings runners via the river to the col but in poor visibility some tracks do not reach the river.

Level C mandatory kit must be carried and presented at sign in; items include a waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket or bivvy, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, and map and compass. Registration, kit checks, and prizegiving are based at Silverstrand car park. Camping places have been reserved at Connemara Caravan and Camping Park with a listed nightly rate per person.
