Event Overview

The Nephin mountain run takes place on Saturday, 1st August 2026, in County Mayo. The race distance is 7.35 km and involves a 736 m ascent, making it a challenging course.

Route Description

The route follows a waymarked path to the summit. From the trig point, runners continue around a bowl, following yellow and red IMRA tape and flags. The descent includes slightly technical ground and a very steep grassy section before leveling out. Runners then navigate a small river gorge before rejoining the initial forest track for a downhill sprint finish. The course is fully marked.

Mandatory Kit

All runners must bring Level B mandatory kit: waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent. The final decision on what must be carried during the race will be announced at registration on the day.

Registration and Start

Registration is inside The Village Convenience Store in Lahardane village. It opens at 9:45 AM and closes at 10:45 AM. The race starts at 11:00 AM at North plantation, approximately 2km south of Lahardaun. Organizers advise carpooling from registration to the start line due to limited parking.

Post-Race

After the race, participants can gather at Murphy's Pub in Lahardane for soup and a sandwich. Prize categories include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for Male and Female, and 1st Junior Male and Female. Prizes will be distributed via email.

Entry Details

Entry opens on Monday, 27th July 2026, at 21:00 and closes on Friday, 31st July 2026, at 18:00. The cost is €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. The entry limit is 250 participants.
