Nephin
Nephin is a mountain running event in County Mayo held on Saturday 1 August 2026. The main route follows a recently introduced Way Marked path to the summit and is run on largely natural terrain with technical sections and steep grassy descents. From the summit trig point the course continues around the bowl following yellow and red IMRA tape and flags, drops along technical ground, crosses a small river gorge near the forest edge, then returns to the forest track for a downhill finish. The route is fully marked and GPS devices are not allowed.
- Main course: 7.35 km, 736 m climb
- Short junior course: under 5 km, out and back
The event carries a difficulty rating of 8 with features including difficult terrain, more than 500 m ascent and a 6 to 10 km course length. The race is part of the Connacht Championship and the North West League. Entry fees are stated as €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s.
Mandatory Level B kit must be carried as required and includes a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. The final kit requirement for what must be carried during the race will be confirmed at registration. Failure to have the required items may result in denied entry or disqualification and random checks may be carried out.
Registration takes place in the Village Convenience Store in Lahardane. The competitive start is at North plantation, about 2 km south of Lahardane between Crossmolina and Pontoon, Co. Mayo.
