The MTC Y Draig Goch takes place on 19 April 2026 and is the sixth day of the MTC CYMRUN six-day end-to-end of Wales. The route follows National Cycle Route 8 and finishes at Barry Island, starting from the Travelodge in Merthyr Tydfil. The course distance is approximately 35 miles (listed as 34.8 miles in route details). Total ascent is 2,486 ft and total descent is 2,996 ft. This is the first edition of the event. All finishers receive a Y Draig Goch medal; male and female champions also receive bespoke trophies. Competitor numbers are limited to 20, with an additional allowance of 20 places for CYMRUN entrants (maximum 40).

Logistics and rules

The race is cup-free; competitors must bring a reusable cup. Cut-off times are enforced using a minimum average speed requirement of 4.0 mph and competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps (provided), compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid kit and an emergency food pack (two chocolate bars). Organisers provide a tracking device with an SOS function and maps/GPX files are emailed to entrants before the event. Entry fees are non-refundable; listed fees are £90.00 for standard entry and £155.00 for the plus package, which includes a race shirt and hi-viz jacket if ordered at least four weeks before the event.
