MTC Y Draig Goch

The MTC Y Draig Goch is a single day ultra event introduced in 2026 and scheduled to return every four years. It forms Day 6 of the Mount to Coast CYMRUN end to end challenge and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. The published total route distance is 34.8 miles with recorded ascent of 2,486 ft and descent of 2,996 ft.

The route begins at the Travelodge in Merthyr Tydfil and follows National Cycle Route 8 through to Cardiff, finishing at Marco's Cafe on Barry Island. Competitor numbers are limited to 20 entrants plus an allowance of 20 CYMRUN competitors, for a maximum of 40 runners. The event operates preset cut off controls based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 mph; competitors who fall below that minimum may be withdrawn.

Maps and GPX files are supplied to entrants only, usually emailed four weeks before the race, and competitors are issued tracking devices with SOS capability for real time monitoring. The race is cup free; participants must provide their own reusable cup. Mandatory kit requirements include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, supplied route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. All finishers receive a bespoke Y Draig Goch medal and male and female champions are awarded bespoke trophies. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
