MTC Y Draig Goch

MTC Y Draig Goch is a single-day ultra event introduced for 2026 and held once every four years. It forms Day 6 of the six-day MTC CYMRUN end-to-end challenge of Wales and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge Series. The published total route distance is 34.8 miles, beginning at the Travelodge in Merthyr Tydfil and finishing at Marco's Cafe, Barry Island. The route follows National Cycle Route 8 through to Cardiff and then on to Barry Island.

Competitor numbers are limited to 20 entries plus an additional 20 places for CYMRUN competitors, giving a maximum of 40 starters. The event enforces time restrictions based on a minimum average speed of 4.0 miles per hour; competitors who fall below this threshold may be withdrawn. Maps and GPX files are supplied only to registered entrants and are emailed approximately four weeks before the event. Each competitor receives a tracking device with an SOS function for monitoring during the race.

Mandatory kit requirements include a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps as provided, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food. The race is cup free and finishers receive a bespoke Y Draig Goch medal; male and female champions are awarded trophies. Entry is non refundable and a Plus Race Package option includes a race shirt and lightweight hi-viz jacket subject to advance ordering.
