Route and logistics

The route starts at the Travelodge, Merthyr Tydfil, follows Cycle Route 8 through Cardiff and continues to Marco’s Cafe, Barry Island. Checkpoints are shown at Cilfynydd (9.8 miles), Taff’s Wells (17.8 miles), and Taff Embankment (25.3 miles) before the finish at Barry Island (34.8 miles). Published elevation figures show roughly 2,392 ft of climb and about 2,913 ft of descent. Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only. Organisers supply a tracking device with an SOS function. The race enforces a minimum average pace of 4 mph; competitors who fall below this requirement may be withdrawn.

Entries, kit and awards

Competitor numbers are limited to 20 plus an allowance of 20 CYMRUN entrants (maximum 40). Entry fees are listed as £90 for the race and £155 for a race package that includes an embroidered shirt and hi-viz jacket (ordering deadlines apply). All finishers receive a bespoke Y Ddraig Goch medal; male and female champions receive trophies. Entrants must meet the minimum age requirement of 20 years and carry mandatory kit including a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and emergency food.
