About the race

The Mt Bogong Conquestathon is a single day trek of 21 km that reaches the summit of Mount Bogong, Victoria's highest mountain at 1,986 m. The route includes a sustained ascent of 1,410 metres over the first 9 km via Staircase Spur, then a descent via Eskdale Spur to Camp Creek Gap and an 8 km return along a 4WD track to Mountain Creek Campground. Entrants choose competitive or non competitive categories and can enter as individuals, families or teams. Team awards include Largest Team and ALTRA Fastest Team based on the first three finishers.

Entries are capped at 350 participants and there are no entries on the day. Registrations close Friday 26th February. Mandatory gear is required for all starters and there are checkpoint cutoffs at the summit and at Camp Creek; failure to reach these checkpoints leads to prescribed alternative actions. The event raises funds for local community groups including the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club Search and Rescue.

Volunteers marshal the course and provide first aid and safety support. The organiser recommends prior training that includes a similar grade hike of at least 20 km with about 1,300 metres elevation gain so participants can manage nutrition and hydration over the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
