Course, safety and entry details
The course is a loop totalling 21 km with a total elevation gain of 1,410 m to the summit of Mt Bogong (1,986 m). The climb uses Staircase Spur for the first 9 km to the summit, then descends via Eskdale Spur to Camp Creek Gap and follows a 4WD track for the final 8 km back to Mountain Creek Campground. Participants are advised to have prior experience of a similar grade hike of at least 20 km with about 1,300 m elevation gain. Mandatory gear is required to start and there are staffed checkpoints with cut-off points on the course; failure to reach those checkpoints requires returning to the campground or using the event transport. Under-18 entrants must have a parent or guardian contactable and present for the duration of the event. Course record times are listed by category: male 1 hr 51 min, female 2 hr 31 min, U18 male 2 hr 07 min, U18 female 3 hr 51 min. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
