Mt Bogong Conquestathon
The Conquestathon is a single day return trek of 21 km to the summit of Mount Bogong, the highest mountain in Victoria at 1,986 m. The course includes a sustained ascent on Staircase Spur and a descent via Eskdale Spur and Camp Creek Gap, finishing on a 4WD track back to Mountain Creek Campground.
The route gains 1,410 metres in the first 9 km to the summit, then continues down to Camp Creek Gap before the final section to the start and finish area. The organiser recommends prior experience on a similar grade walk of at least 20 km with 1,300 metres of elevation gain to understand pacing, nutrition and hydration needs.
Participants must carry mandatory equipment that is checked before starting. The event uses clocked checkpoints with strict cut off rules at the summit and at Camp Creek; failure to reach these checkpoints in time leads to prescribed alternate arrangements for returning to the campground. No entries are accepted on the day and total entries are capped at 350.
The Conquestathon runs competitive and non competitive categories and accepts team entries, with awards such as Largest Team and ALTRA Fastest Team. The event raises funds for local community groups including the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club Search and Rescue, and course marshals include volunteer search and rescue personnel. Maps, GPX files and participant information are provided to entrants. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
