Mt Buffalo - Day 1

Mt Buffalo - Day 1 is scheduled for Saturday 31 October 2026 at the Eurobin Creek Picnic Area, Porepunkah. The course distance is 10.5 km with approximately 1,345 m of vertical climb. The finish is at the Old Buffalo Chalet.

Course and logistics

Runners depart from the Eurobin Creek Picnic Area onto The Big Walk, which winds up Mt Buffalo and finishes at the Buffalo Chalet. There are four road crossings where The Big Walk crosses Mt Buffalo Road; participants should take care and follow officials at these crossings. Parking for the event is provided at Porepunkah Recreation Reserve with shuttle buses to the start; short-term drop-off parking is available at the picnic ground. Public toilets and portaloos are available at the picnic area. A shuttle bus returns participants from the finish to the carpark at Porepunkah township.

Aid, safety and support

There is a single water stop at Mackies Lookout, located about 4.6 km from the finish. Finish times are recorded at the top of the steps at Buffalo Chalet; water and electrolyte are provided at the finish. Organisers advise walkers to plan for roughly four hours on course and a minimum pace of about 25 minutes per kilometre, and to be self-sufficient for their time on the route. Mandatory alpine gear is required because conditions can change quickly; an updated kit list is provided in competitor information. Volunteer roles are listed for course sweeping, de-marking, general marshalling and registration support. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
