About the race
The Mt Bogong Conquestathon is a single-day mountain trek of 21 km that goes to the summit of Mount Bogong (1,986 m). The route climbs 1,410 metres in the first 9 km via Staircase Spur to the summit, then descends via Eskdale Spur to Camp Creek Gap and follows a 4WD track for the final 8 km back to Mountain Creek Campground.
Organisers recommend prior experience with a similar 20 km hike and about 1,300 metres of elevation gain to be familiar with pacing, nutrition and hydration. Participation requires mandatory safety equipment, and there is a mandatory gear check at registration. Entries are capped at 350 participants, there are competitive and non-competitive categories, and team entries are included with specific team awards and prizes. There are no entries on the day.
The event raises funds for local community groups, including the Birkebeiner Nordic Ski Club Search and Rescue, and course marshals include trained search and rescue volunteers. There are cutoffs at the summit and at Camp Creek Gap; participants who do not meet these cutoffs must follow the event procedures for return. U18 participants must have a parent or guardian present and contactable for the duration of the event. Participant information, course maps, GPX files and other event documents are provided by the organisers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
