Mon & Brec Canal 40 Mile Race

The Mon & Brec Canal 40 Mile Race is a point-to-point running event on Saturday 25 April 2026 that follows the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal from Malpas to Brecon Basin. The route uses the canal towpath and passes locks, lift bridges, villages, narrowboats, farmland, hills, and waterside communities. Surfaces are described as firm and mostly flat along the towpath.

Participants must be 18 or older. There is an overall time limit of 15 hours for the route. Entry fees are listed as £45 for attached runners and £47 for unattached runners; entries open on 18 December 2025 and close on 9 April 2026. The event includes three fully supported checkpoints spaced along the course; each checkpoint will offer snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, power banks, and music.

Mandatory kit requirements aim to keep participants safe on the towpath and include suitable trail or road running footwear, a water carrier (minimum 1 litre), a mobile phone, a head torch or light source, a survival or bivvy bag, a waterproof jacket, and a rucksack or running pack. Entry includes a commemorative Canalrace finish memento, post-run care at the finish, and event support from Canalrace volunteers and crew.
