Mon & Brec Canal 40 Mile Race

The Mon & Brec Canal 40 Mile Race takes place on Saturday 25 April 2026. It is a point-to-point event covering 40 miles from Malpas to Brecon Basin along the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal. The minimum age is 18 on the event date. Entries open 18 December 2025 and close 18 April 2026. Entry fees are £45 for attached runners and £47 for unattached runners, including booking fees. At the time of posting there are 40 participants entered. There is an overall time limit of 15 hours for the course.

Route and support

The route follows the canal towpath and passes locks, lift bridges, villages, and open countryside. The event provides three fully supported checkpoints stocked with snacks, fresh fruit, hot and cold drinks, seating, power banks, and music. Included with entry are a commemorative finish memento and post-run care, and the route is supported by event crew and volunteers as a community-led event.

Mandatory kit and refunds

Mandatory kit includes suitable trail or road running footwear, a water carrier (minimum 1 litre), a mobile phone, a head torch or light source, a survival bag or bivvy bag, a waterproof jacket, and a rucksack or running pack. Refunds are available on a sliding scale: 95% before 31 January 2026; 75% between 1 February and 2 March 2026; 50% between 3 March and 2 April 2026; and no refunds after 3 April 2026.
