Bristol Backyard Ultra 2027
The Bristol Backyard Ultra takes place on Saturday 1 May 2027 at Blaise Castle Estate, Bristol. It is an official Backyard Ultra: runners complete a 6.7056 km (4.167 mile) trail loop every hour. To continue, a runner must finish the loop within the hour and be in the starting corral on the next hour; failing to do so ends that runner’s race. The event repeats until one runner completes a final solo loop and is recorded as the sole finisher.
The course uses woodland trails, flowing singletrack and open green spaces with short climbs and varied terrain. Blaise Castle Estate is described as hilly, rocky and rooty. The loop is fully signposted and requires no navigation. Road shoes may suffice when the ground is bone dry, but trail shoes are required once it has rained.
Basecamp is located at the start and finish and provides space for kit, chairs and personal support crews. Facilities include toilets, designated event car parking, and nearby amenities such as a café and playground. A small aid station offers water, hot drinks and snacks but runners must plan and practise their own fuelling and recovery strategies.
Head torches are mandatory during the night. Chairs or small shelters are recommended for between-loop rest. Running poles are prohibited. The event uses electronic chip timing, gives warnings 3, 2 and 1 minute before each lap, has marshals on course for the first three loops, a professional medical team on site and night security for basecamp.
Participants must be 20 years or older on race day. Withdrawal should be notified to the Race Director or a marshal in the registration marquee. Refund and transfer policies apply as published, including tiered refunds by notice period, deferrals up to four weeks before the event to the next year only, and name transfers permitted up to 14 days before the event via RaceNation.
