Momentus Back Yard Ultra

Momentus Back Yard Ultra is a trail running event held on private farmland at Williams Rushing Farm in Monroe, North Carolina. The event offers two race formats on the same loop course: an ongoing hourly loop format and a single-loop fun run.

The course is described as intermediate difficulty with mostly hard-packed dirt, roots, rocks, a small gravel section, and some manicured grass. Each lap has about 100 feet of elevation gain. The setting is private farmland with natural surroundings.

Race formats and distances:

  • 4.167 mile loop every hour until one runner remains
  • Single 4.167 mile loop at a relaxed pace

The event is self-supported on course; no staff aid stations will be provided and support crews are not permitted on the trail. Each runner may have up to two accompanying crew members in the village area and all attendees must follow support and viewer rules. Participants may camp in a designated area on the farm during the race until the final runner stops. Contained fires and grills are allowed in the village; open fires are not permitted. Music will be played throughout the race and registrants can contribute to the rotating playlist.

Previous editions recorded last-runner distances of 62.5 miles in 2024 and 83 miles in 2025. The closest airport is Charlotte International Airport. Typical May temperatures range from about 76 to 83°F highs and 55 to 63°F lows. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
