Event overview

The Unforeseen is a random-distance trail race at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, NC (2986 Rocky River Rd). The race distance is determined by a dice roll 15 seconds before the start; possible distances range from 4.5 to 27 miles. Each lap measures 2.25 miles. Free race photographs will be provided. The winner receives a Damascus steel knife as the prize.

Course

The course is a single 2.25-mile loop composed of flat gravel and single-track trails. The start and finish are located near the pavilion behind the nature center. The route is marked with yellow arrows at each trail junction. A step-by-step line of the lap follows the Umbrella Tree trail, south fork trail, Sierra trail, Sassafras trail (passing the Sierra trail), past Dragonfly Pond, along the Dragonfly trail, then back to the Umbrella Tree trail and the pavilion.

Logistics and rules

An aid station is located at the pavilion behind the nature center, offering snacks, refill jugs, trash cans, and first aid. Runners must wear bibs visibly to be accounted for each lap. Volunteers receive an entry to a future race. The refund policy: 100% refund within 90 days, 50% within 30 days, none within 10 days; no refunds if the race is canceled, but entrants will be granted another free race.
