The Unforeseen

Charlotte, United States • 14 Nov 2026

Event overview

The Unforeseen is a trail race scheduled for Saturday, November 14, 2026, at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, NC. The event is a random-distance race: the actual race distance is determined by a dice roll 15 seconds before the race starts. Possible distances range from 4.5 to 27 miles. Each lap measures 2.25 miles. Past rolls produced the minimum distance in 2024 and a distance just under 25 miles in 2025. Free race photographs will be provided. The winner will receive a Damascus steel knife as a prize. Volunteers receive an entry to a future race.

Course and logistics

The course is a 2.25-mile loop of flat gravel and single-track trail, with the start and finish located near the pavilion behind the nature center. Trail junctions will be marked with yellow arrows. An aid station at the pavilion will offer snacks, refill jugs, trash cans, and first-aid support. Runners must wear clearly visible bibs so laps can be accounted for. Packet pickup is available before the race. A GPX file for the course is available online. The refund policy: 100% refund within 90 days, 50% within 30 days, none within 10 days; if the race is canceled there are no refunds but all entrants will be granted another free race.
