The Unforeseen
The Unforeseen is a trail event at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, NC. The event includes a random-distance race and a separate timed option where participants complete as many laps as they can in six hours. Each lap is 2.25 miles and the course uses a mix of flat gravel and single-track trails.
Distances offered:
- Random distance determined by dice, 4.5 to 27 miles
- Six hour option, complete as many 2.25 mile laps as possible
The loop begins and ends near the pavilion behind the nature center and is marked with yellow arrows at trail junctions. The route follows the Umbrella Tree trail, South Fork trail, Sierra trail, Sassafras trail by Dragonfly Pond, and returns via the Dragonfly trail to the pavilion. The pavilion also serves as the aid station with snacks, refill jugs, trash cans, and first aid support. Race photographs will be provided.
The random-distance result is decided with a dice roll just before the race begins; past rolls have produced both the shortest and near-longest possible distances. Bibs must be clearly visible so laps can be tracked. The winner receives a Damascus steel knife as a prize. Refunds are 100% within 90 days, 50% within 30 days, and none within 10 days. If the race is canceled, no refunds are issued but entrants are granted a future free race. Volunteers receive entry to a future race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
