The Unforeseen

The Unforeseen is a trail event organized by Kingfisher Ultras at Reedy Creek Nature Preserve in Charlotte, NC. The event uses a random-distance format: a dice roll determines the race distance, which can range from 4.5 to 27 miles. Laps are 2.25 miles each. A separate 6-Hour option is offered in which participants complete as many laps as they can within six hours.

The course is a 2.25-mile loop on flat gravel and single-track trails. The start and finish are located near the pavilion behind the nature center. The route is marked with yellow arrows at each trail junction and follows named trails including Umbrella Tree, South Fork, Sierra, Sassafras, and Dragonfly, passing Dragonfly Pond.

Aid and logistics are based at the pavilion behind the nature center; the aid station provides snacks, jugs for refills, trash cans, and serves as the first aid point. Participants must display visible bibs to be accounted for each lap. Free race photographs will be provided.

The winner receives a Damascus steel knife supplied by Arbor Novo. The event offers a refund policy: 100% refunds within 90 days, 50% within 30 days, and no refunds within 10 days. If the event is canceled, entrants receive access to another free race. Volunteers receive an entry to a future race. Registration closes Fri, Nov 13 at 7:59 PM ET.
