The Sweaty Backyard Cox Ultra

Concord, United States • 25 Jul 2026

Event overview

The event is a backyard ultra held in the woods near 3702 Sapp Rd, Concord, North Carolina. Runners complete repeated loops on a measured course; each loop is exactly 4.167 miles.

The format uses a fixed starting corral that is sized to hold the entire field and does not change during the event. Participants must be in the corral at the bell and must start each loop at the bell. A sequence of audible warnings is given three, two, and one minute before each start.

Each loop begins precisely one hour after the previous start. A loop counts only if it is finished within that hour. Runners may not leave the course during a loop except to use the restroom. Personal aid is not allowed while on a loop; common aid stations are permitted. Non-participants, including runners who have been eliminated, may not be on the course. Artificial aids such as trekking poles are not allowed. Slower runners must allow passes.

Timing of individual loops is optional. Results are reported as distance covered. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than everyone else, there is no winner. The event is open ended in duration.
