Psychoactive: A Last Runner Standing Event
Psychoactive is a Last Runner Standing running event held at Blackberry Ridge Farm in Huntersville, North Carolina. The event uses a compact looped course of about 1.25 to 1.5 miles that runs on gravel roads, trails and rolling farm fields, including active wildflower and produce rows. The course starts and finishes at the same location and remains close to the central aid area.
The format eliminates runners who fail to start or complete a lap within the allotted time. All participants begin each lap together and lap start times shorten as the event progresses. The race continues until one person remains. Elevation gain on the loop is roughly 100 feet per lap.
Event capacity is limited to the first 125 registrants. Registration fees listed for recent editions were standard registration and a later higher fee if spots remain. Participants are expected to be self sufficient at their personal base for shade, seating, clothing changes and lighting if needed. Unlimited water plus limited electrolyte drinks and snacks are available at Race HQ. Two portable restrooms are provided.
The event takes place on private farm property and allows participants to bring food and beer. Some alcoholic beverages are provided for those 21 and older. Additional event elements include a custom recycled material shirt, a souvenir bib, assorted giveaways and chances to earn prizes at set cumulative distances. Proceeds and additional donations support the farm and its native pollinator habitat, and the event runs apparel, sneaker and medal recycling initiatives.
