Psychoactive: a Last Runner Standing

Psychoactive: A Last Runner Standing Event

Psychoactive is an elimination-style running event organized by Human Powered Movement and planned for September 2026. The format stages repeated laps on a short loop; participants who fail to start or finish a lap within the allotted time are removed from the field until one runner remains.

The course is a compact 1.25-1.5 mile loop on private land at Blackberry Ridge Farm in Huntersville, NC. The route includes gravel roads, trails, rolling fields, and active wildflower and produce rows. Elevation gain is roughly 100-125 feet per lap, and aid is kept close to the loop.

The event is limited to the first 125 registrants and has published registration tiers. Registered participants receive a custom event shirt made from 100% recycled materials, a souvenir race bib, and two finishing beverages (age restricted). Runners can earn additional goodies by reaching specified cumulative distances, including:

  • 13.1 miles
  • 26.2 miles
  • 35 miles
  • 50 miles

Psychoactive emphasizes environmental practices: additional registration donations support a native pollinator habitat at the host farm, and the event collects used apparel, sneakers, and medals for recycling. Since 2024 the event has been cup free, and since 2025 it has been safety-pin free. The gathering is hosted on private farm property with limited parking and a family-run venue.
