Mohawk Mountain Race
The Mohawk Mountain Race is a trail event held at the Mohawk Mountain Ski Area in Cornwall, Connecticut. The course utilizes the terrain of the ski resort, featuring ascents and descents across various trails normally used for skiing and snowboarding. During the event, participants can view the fall foliage throughout the mountain landscape.
The event offers several distance options to suit different preferences:
- 5 km: A single loop featuring 1,332 feet of elevation gain.
- 10 km: Two loops of the 5 km course with 2,664 feet of elevation gain.
- Half Marathon: Includes one 5 km loop plus additional miles in the Mohawk State Forest, totaling 3,169 feet of elevation gain.
- Marathon: Two loops of the Half Marathon course with a total of 6,338 feet of elevation gain.
The Half Marathon distance is part of the Blue-Blazed Trail Running Series, utilizing trails maintained by the Connecticut Forest & Park Association. The course follows specific paths such as the Wildwood Trail, Timber Trail, and the Mohawk Trail.
This is a cupless event, meaning participants must carry their own hydration systems, such as bottles or packs. Water and electrolyte drinks are available at the start/finish area and at designated aid stations in the Mohawk State Forest for longer distances.
