MMT Training Academy Run 1 - Caroline Furnace to Elizabeth Furnace
This is a point to point supported mountain training run held on January 16, 2027. The route covers roughly the first third of the MMT 100 course between Caroline Furnace Camp Entrance and the Signal Knob parking area. The course distance is 32 miles with approximately 4,600 feet of total ascent and about 5,000 feet of total descent. Aid stations are located at Edinburg Gap (about 11 miles) and Woodstock Tower (about 19.2 miles). The event requires a car shuttle to move runners from the finish area to the start.
The course is primarily mountain trail with an initial stretch on gravel road. The route is not fully marked; blazing marks trail portions only. Participants are advised to familiarize themselves with the route in advance, carry the provided turnsheet, and use the available GPX file for navigation. Runners should plan for winter conditions in mid-January, including cold temperatures and possible weather changes, and carry extra clothing layers and a headlamp for early light or late finish.
Runners are asked to bring two personal aid station bags in quart or gallon zip lock format, labeled with their name and containing food or drink for the two aid stations. Club aid at stations will be minimal. Entry opens December 1, 2026 at 9:00 am and is limited to 60 runners.
Medical support is not provided by the club during the event; participants are responsible for their own medical care and safety. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
