Mingus Traverse : event overview
The Mingus Traverse is a point-to-point trail race from Prescott to Sedona, Arizona, held in early May. The course runs between Watson Lake Park in Prescott and the Sedona Ranger Station in Sedona and covers approximately 79.4 miles with a race time limit of 44.75 hours. The route passes through Prescott Valley, Mingus Mountain, Jerome, Clarkdale, the Verde Valley and Sedona, moving from pine forests and high desert into Sedona’s red rock country.
Course details and race logistics
The course lists a total estimated elevation gain of 10,116 feet, with a maximum elevation of 7,819 ft and a minimum of 3,319 ft. Surface distribution is roughly 56% single-track, 34% double-track, and 10% pavement. Aid stations on the Mingus Traverse include six aid stations and one water-only station; most aid stations offer food, drinks and vegan options. Pacers are not allowed on the Mingus Traverse. Runners are required to carry a GPS-enabled device with the course file downloaded. The event is marked with orange ribbons and uses a cupless aid-station policy; recycling and Terracycle collection are part of the event’s sustainability measures.
