Trail Running in the Ponderosa Pines
The Blackout Night Runs takes place at Fort Tuthill County Park in Flagstaff, Arizona. This night race is held at an elevation above 7,000 feet, offering participants the opportunity to run under starry skies through forested terrain. The event features three distinct distances:
- 27 km: A two-loop course covering 16.8 miles with 1,293 feet of elevation gain.
- 13 km: A single loop of approximately 8.56 miles with 648 feet of elevation gain.
- 6 km: A shorter loop of 4.12 miles with 287 feet of elevation gain.
The courses utilize the Soldiers Trail and Highlands Trail Loop. The terrain varies from narrow single-track trails to wide, well-maintained forest paths. While the trails are graded to be accessible for those new to trail running, the high-altitude environment and mesa sections provide a varied experience for all participants.
