Blackout Night Runs

The Blackout Night Runs take place in Northern Arizona within the Ponderosa pines of Fort Tuthill County Park. This event is held on the eve of the Big Pine Trail Runs, and participants who complete a distance at both events earn a "double down" medal. The course is situated at an elevation above 7,000 feet and offers views of the starry skies over dark mountain backdrops.

The terrain varies from narrow single track to wide, well-maintained forest paths. It is designed as a multi-loop race, with the following distances available:

  • 27 km: A two-loop course covering approximately 16.9 miles with 1,293 feet of elevation gain.
  • 13 km: A single loop of approximately 8.5 miles with 648 feet of elevation gain.
  • 6 km: A shorter course of approximately 3.9 miles featuring 287 feet of elevation gain.

Aid stations are positioned every 4 to 4.4 miles and are stocked with water, electrolyte drinks, fruit, and both sweet and salty snacks. Due to the high-elevation environment and potential for warm daytime temperatures followed by cool nights, runners are advised to carry at least one bottle of water.

The event features chip timing and live split tracking. Participants receive a branded item, a finisher medal, and access to an iced coffee bar at the finish line. Results are archived, and professional finish line photography is provided. On-site camping and tent rentals are available at a designated group campground near the start/finish area.
