Event Overview

Groovin' in the Aspens is a trail running event offering five distances: 6K, 10K, 20K, 30K, and 50K. It takes place on September 13, 2026, at the Fort Valley Trailhead in Flagstaff, Arizona. The race was formerly known as Gaspin' in the Aspens and has been revived by Bear Jaw Events.

Course Details

The courses traverse the pines on some of Flagstaff's trail systems. Aid station locations are to be determined but will be spaced no more than 7 miles apart.

  • 6K: Described as a relatively flat course on smooth, easy "green" trails through the aspens.
  • 10K: Uses a combination of single-track trail and jeep road, with 682 feet of elevation gain.
  • 20K: Combines mostly single-track with some jeep roads, featuring 900 feet of elevation gain.
  • 30K: Consists of 1 Black loop and 1 Blue loop.
  • 50K: Consists of 2 Black loops and 1 Blue loop.

The event welcomes wheelchairs, strollers, and wagons, with the note that some areas of the trail course may be difficult to maneuver.

Registration & Logistics

Registration closes on Thursday, September 10, at 11:59 PM MT. Race day registration is available beginning at 6:00 AM at the Fort Valley Trailhead. Payment methods accepted on race day include cash, check, and credit card.

Packet pickup is offered early on Friday, September 11, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kickstand Kafe in Flagstaff, or on race day before 8:00 AM.

Participant Perks
