Groovin' in the Aspens

Groovin' in the Aspens is a trail running event held at the Fort Valley Trailhead in Flagstaff, Arizona. The event offers multiple distances that use combinations of single track and jeep road through pine and aspen forest. Bear Jaw Events revived the race under this new name.

The event distances are:

  • 6K
  • 10K
  • 20K
  • 30K
  • 50K

Course notes: the 6K is a smooth, relatively flat green loop near the event expo area. The 10K combines single track and jeep road and includes about 682 feet of elevation gain. The 20K uses mostly single track with some jeep roads and about 900 feet of elevation gain. The 30K consists of one Black loop plus one Blue loop. The 50K consists of two Black loops plus one Blue loop. Aid stations will be placed no more than seven miles apart.

Logistics: early packet pickup is scheduled for Friday, September 11 at Kickstand Kafe, 719 N. Humphreys, Flagstaff, AZ, with additional pickup available on race day before the event. Participants receive a custom finisher medal, a custom event t-shirt, and pre and post race snacks. Race related items will not be mailed to registrants who do not attend. Wheelchairs, strollers, and wagons are welcome but some trail sections may be difficult to navigate. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.

Night trail races in the ponderosa pines of Flagstaff offering 27K, 13K and 6K on marked single track and forest paths at about 7,000 feet, with chip timing, aid stations, finish medals and live tracking.

A multi-distance trail race at Fort Tuthill County Park on June 20, 2026, running through ponderosa pines above 7,000 feet. Loop courses from 6K to 50K with stocked aid stations, chip timing, and on-site group camping.

A USA Track & Field Mountain Ultra Trail sanctioned uphill race at Arizona Snowbowl, roughly 11 miles of ascent with limited entry for 150 runners on August 15, 2026. The course features high elevation, aid stations, and a summit finish.

A multi discipline endurance weekend from Flagstaff toward the Grand Canyon featuring 100 mile and 55K trail runs, a 100 mile mountain bike race, and relay team options. The course follows the Arizona Trail near the San Francisco Peaks.
