Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff Dave McKay Memorial Half Marathon and 5K Run/Walk
The event takes place in Flagstaff on August 8 and is presented by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff. It is the 49th annual running of this event and offers both on-site and an anywhere course option.
Distances offered:
- 13.1 miles half marathon
- 13.1 miles early half marathon run/walk
- 5K fun run
- 1K Kid's Dash
The course begins at Thorpe Park and climbs an urban trail onto Observatory Mesa, then follows dirt roads with views of the San Francisco Peaks. Elevation ranges from about 6,957 ft at the start to about 7,731 ft near the 7.5 mile mark, with most climbing occurring in the first 1.25 miles. Runners from lower elevations are advised to pace themselves on the climb. The 5K is also held on Observatory Mesa.
All half marathon participants receive a commemorative finisher's medal. Half and 5K participants receive a $34 Sweatvac long-sleeved shirt, free digital race photos, and admission to a free pre-race pizza party at Fratelli's party room. Kid's Dash participants receive a medal. Participants who use the early run and walk option receive chip timing but are not eligible for age-division awards.
All proceeds benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Flagstaff mentoring programs. The event is part of the Flagstaff Running Series and is linked with a partner trail event on October 10. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
