Mere Sands Mile
Mere Sands Mile is a Canicross event held at Mere Sands Wood Nature Reserve in Rufford, Ormskirk, Lancashire on 1 November 2026. The event is organised by Sporting Paws and is described as community oriented, open to runners, walkers and their dogs.
The main activity is a timed one mile run or walk. Timing is used for record keeping rather than as a competitive format, and no medals are awarded. After the main mile there is an optional social run of about 2.5 km.

The course follows scenic trails through the reserve with mostly flat woodland tracks and natural surfaces suitable for running and walking. Onsite facilities include a visitor centre with a café, toilets and parking.
Entries open on 6 March 2026 and close on 20 October 2026. The entry fee for the one mile event is £7.50 and a small number of participants are already registered.
