The MCW Lenape Runventure is a running event organized by MissionCleanWater. It follows the Lenape Trail, a 34-mile route across Essex County, New Jersey. The route connects Branch Brook Park in Newark to South Mountain Reservation in Millburn, passing through 18 parks and 11 municipalities. The course includes varied surfaces such as pavement, gravel, and singletrack trails.
Participation Options
Participants can enter as a solo runner or as part of a relay team with 3 to 6 members. Solo participants receive full support, including logistics and portable aid stations. Relay teams can also use the portable aid stations but must provide their own transportation between checkpoints.
Support and Logistics
Registered participants receive comprehensive support. This includes a shuttle to the start in Newark. On the course, portable aid stations with water, electrolytes, and food are provided approximately every 3 to 7 miles. Two support vehicles travel the route to meet runners at checkpoints, which are spaced 3 to 8 miles apart. A first aid kit is available, with supplies for common issues like blisters.
Preparation and Schedule
Before the event, participants receive an adventure packet with information. Optional, biweekly virtual preparation sessions are offered to discuss strategies and best practices. Personalized training plans are also available. On the event day, participants gather at the South Mountain Reservation parking area in Millburn for a shuttle to the start in Newark.
Charity Purpose
The event supports MissionCleanWater, a charity that builds long-term clean water solutions for communities without reliable access. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
