May Madness 50K

The May Madness 50K is a specialized running event located near Hoffman, North Carolina, on NC Wildlife property. The race format consists of ten separate 5K runs held consecutively on the same day. One 5K starts at the top of every hour, requiring participants to start with the group each time. Participants must complete all ten segments to be recognized as a finisher.

The course is wheel-measured and consists of natural surfaces including sand, dirt, leaves, and pine straw. There are no man-made coverings on the path and minimal shade is available. Because the breaks between the 5K segments do not count toward the total running time, the event provides an opportunity for runners to record a cumulative 50 km time.

Participants are responsible for their own nutrition and hydration, as there are no restaurants in the immediate vicinity. While the aid station provides water, electrolytes, and basic snacks, runners are encouraged to bring coolers with personal food and ice. Necessary equipment for the event includes a chair, a pop-up shelter for shade between laps, insect repellent, and sunscreen.

The venue offers free camping on the Friday night before the event for both tents and campers, though no hook-ups are available. Regulations for the property require all dogs to be on a leash and monitored by a non-running person at all times.
