The Long Play Trail Race
The Long Play Trail Race takes place in the Croom Tract of the Withlacoochee State Forest in Brooksville, Florida. The event features a variety of distances held on single track trails through natural Florida landscapes. Runners start and finish at the Ridge Manor Trailhead, with courses winding along the Withlacoochee River and into remote sections of the forest.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 33 1/3 Mile: A single loop ultra-marathon distance on single track trail.
- Half Marathon: A trail run through the forest.
- 6K: A shorter trail course starting and finishing at the trailhead.
The race provides aid stations at various mile markers, and drop bags are permitted at specific stations for the 33 1/3 Mile distance. Participants are required to carry their own fluids, with a recommendation of at least 2 liters for the longer distances and 16 ounces for the 6K. All finishers receive a handcrafted medal and unique awards. After the event, a post-race barbecue is provided for participants.
Nearby camping is available on a first-come, first-served basis at Crooked River, Cypress Glenn, and Silver Lake Campgrounds. These sites offer options for tents or RVs, though specific rules regarding pets vary by campground. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
