Whispering Pines

Inverness, United States • 14 Feb 2026

Event overview

Whispering Pines is a free, donation-supported trail event held at Whispering Pines City Park in Inverness, FL. The event is donation-funded to cover park rental, insurance, and aid station supplies; any remaining funds will be donated to the park. The event is open to all ages and abilities. The start and finish are at the pavilion near Parking Lot B and the playground. Capacity is 175 runners.

Course and logistics

The course is a 5-mile loop that begins and ends at the pavilion. Trails include a mix of single-track and double-track, with surfaces of packed sand and pine needles, gentle hills, and plentiful shade. Each loop crosses two paved roads inside the park. The route will be marked with arrows and orange flagging ribbon; there are many intersecting trails, so following the markings is important.

Participants may complete as many loops as they wish and should check in with the timing crew after each loop. An aid station at the start/finish will offer standard trail food and drinks; participants may bring items to contribute to the aid station potluck. Everyone who completes at least 2 loops (10 miles) will receive a finisher award.

Nearby accommodations include motels and campgrounds: Central Motel (~3 miles), Holiday Inn Express (~4 miles), Holder Mine Campground (~4 miles), Mutual Mine Campground (~6.5 miles), and additional motels near I-75/Hwy 44 in Wildwood (~16 miles). Overnight stays are not allowed inside Whispering Pines Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
