Whispering Pines 12-Hour Trail Run
Whispering Pines is a 12-hour trail running event at Whispering Pines Park in Inverness, FL held on February 6, 2027. The event is free and relies on donations to cover expenses such as park rental, insurance, and aid station supplies; any surplus will be donated to the park.
The course is a 5-mile loop that begins and ends at the Pavilion by parking lot B and the playground. The route is marked with directional arrows and orange flagging; participants should pay attention because the park contains many intersecting trails. The surface is single-track and double-track trails with packed sand or pine-needle cover, shaded woods, and some gentle ups and downs. Each loop crosses two paved park roads. Parking and restrooms are available near the pavilion, with additional parking nearby.
Participants may run or walk the loop as many times as they wish during the 12-hour event. Runners receive credit for whatever distance they complete; they may take breaks, leave the course, and return, provided they inform the timing crew. An aid station will be located at the start/finish with typical food and drinks; participants may bring personal items and share food in a potluck style.
Everyone who completes two loops will receive a finishers award. Overnight stays inside the park are not permitted. Several motels and campgrounds are available within a few miles of the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
