Whispering Pines 12 Hour Endurance Race
Whispering Pines is a free, donation-supported endurance event held at Whispering Pines City Park. The event base is the pavilion near Parking Lot B and the playground. Donations help cover park rental, insurance, aid station supplies, and any remaining funds will be donated to park care.
The course is a 5 mile loop that begins and ends at the pavilion. Trails combine single-track and double-track sections. Surfaces include packed sand and pine needles, with gentle hills and substantial shade. Each loop crosses two paved park roads; the course will be marked with arrows and orange flagging ribbon because there are many intersecting trails.
Participants may run, walk, or mix activities and may complete as many loops as they choose. Runners should check in with the timing crew after each loop to report plans. An aid station at the start and finish offers standard trail food and drinks; participants may also bring items to contribute to a shared potluck. Everyone who completes at least two loops, equal to 10 miles, receives a finisher award.
Capacity is 185 runners. There is no waitlist; spots may reopen as people withdraw. Local lodging and camping options are noted nearby, and no overnight stays are allowed inside Whispering Pines Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
