Loch Thom Trail Race 2026

The Loch Thom Trail Race is held as part of Scottish Running Week and acts as a fundraiser for Athletics Trust Scotland. All entry fees will be donated to Athletics Trust Scotland. ProTay Timing is providing donated timing services.

The route has been revised to a 5K out and back course that starts and finishes at the Ardgowan Fishery Café at the Greenock Cut Visitor Centre. From the start the course follows a paved road to just below Loch Thom Cottage, then becomes an uphill trail to the saddle between White Hill and Jock's Hill. The route then turns left to follow the Scroggy Bank trail to a turning point at the electricity pylon shown on the map.

An alternative 3K route starts and finishes at the same location and turns on the hilly trail between Loch Thom Cottage and the saddle. Minimum ages are set for each race: 5K runners must be at least 15, while the 3K is for junior athletes born in 2015 or 2016 up to age 15.

Event details include entry fees and limits. A cap of 200 participants will be applied and a waitlist used once the limit is reached. A £3 levy applies for non Scottish Athletics members. Registration takes place inside the café, which will be open for food and drinks. Race bibs double as raffle tickets. There are no cash prizes this year. Medals will be presented to all 3K finishers and downloadable finisher certificates will be available for both distances.

Location: Ardgowan Fishery, Greenock Cut Visitor Centre, Cornalees Bridge, Greenock PA16 9LX. Toilets are available at the visitor centre. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
