Leftovers Trail Run

Leftovers Trail Run takes place in Briar Chapel, Chapel Hill, NC on November 28, 2026. The event offers two measured trail distances that use the community's network of forested hiking and mountain biking trails and begin with just under half a mile of pavement.

  • 5K: 3.48 miles (5.6K), 217 feet elevation gain
  • 10K: 6.23 miles (10.02K), 380 feet elevation gain

Courses run on a mixture of undulating double-track and flowy single-track with roots, rocks, and short hill climbs. Both the 5K and 10K carry a technical terrain rating of 3 out of 5. The race field is limited to reduce trail overcrowding. The event includes chip timing, medical support, and clearly marked courses. Aid stations are provided (5K has one on course plus finish; 10K has three on course plus finish).

Registration includes a choice of vintage race tee, medal, and bib that are repurposed from past events. The post race area features food, music, an awards ceremony with contests and giveaways, and free professional photo downloads. A free Kids Race for Treasure is available for age 11 and under with age groups and small prizes. Staging and parking are at Great Meadow Park at Briar Chapel, 161 Salt Cedar Lane, Chapel Hill, NC, with overflow parking available about 0.3 miles away at Woods Charter School.
