Tunnel to Towers Climb - Raleigh
The Tunnel to Towers Climb in Raleigh is a memorial stair-climbing event held at the former Wells Fargo Tower building. The event honors the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, specifically following the footsteps of firefighter Stephen Siller. Participants climb a total of 110 flights of stairs, matching the distance climbed by first responders at the Twin Towers.
The course structure requires participants to ascend and descend the tower to the 30th floor three full times. On the fourth and final ascent, the climb concludes at the 20th floor to reach the symbolic 110-flight total. Official timing concludes at the 20th floor of the final lap. The event is limited to the first 200 registered participants.
Different registration categories are available for the event:
- Adult Registration
- First Responders and Military Registration
- Youth Registration 11 to 17 yrs
- Child Registration 10 & Under
Participants must be at least 10 years old to take part. First responders are permitted and encouraged to wear turnout gear, though oxygen packs are not allowed in the stairwell. For those who do not wish to complete the full 110 flights, a bailout area with elevator access is located on the 10th floor.
The venue is located at 150 Fayetteville Street. There is no bag check available due to security regulations, so participants are advised not to bring large bags or valuables. Registered climbers receive a participant T-shirt and a finisher's medal. Parking is available at the Alexander Square Parking Deck or via local street parking.
