Cane Creek Mountain Trail Run : Snow Camp, NC

The Cane Creek Mountain Trail Run takes place at the Pine Hill Trailhead in the Cane Creek Mountain Natural Area near Snow Camp, North Carolina. The event offers two distance options on single-track trails with notable climbs and varied terrain.

Distances

  • 10K : 6.2 miles, 652 feet elevation gain
  • Half Marathon : 13.4 miles, 1509 feet elevation gain

Both courses start with about one mile of wide gravel and flat trail, then include a steep rocky ascent of roughly 300 feet to the mountain summit at 987 feet. An 80 foot observation tower sits at the peak; runners have an optional stair climb near the end of the course. Runners who do not climb may accept a five minute real-time penalty served at the aid station at the tower base. The organizer rates the trails as semi-technical and assigns a technical difficulty of 4 out of 5.

Parking at the staging area is limited to 60 vehicles. Additional parking areas provide continuous 2 to 4 minute shuttle service or an option to walk about 0.5 mile from Camp Frontier. Drop offs at the staging area are not permitted.

All finishers receive a medal. Registration includes a race tee, chip timing, frequent aid stations every 1 to 2 miles, medical support, post-race food, free race photos, awards, and shuttle service. Minimum age rules apply: runners 12 and older may race unaccompanied; ages 8 to 11 must be accompanied by a registered parent or guardian unless approved by the race director.
