Leaden Boot Challenge

The Leaden Boot Challenge is a 26.2 mile walk/run based in the White Peak village of Alstonefield. The route entails 4800 feet of ascent and descent and follows an elliptical course that starts and finishes in Alstonefield.

The event began as a parish fundraising initiative after lead was stolen from the roof of St Peter's church. Since its inception the event has supported local causes and has raised approximately £60,000.

Facilities on the route include six manned checkpoints spaced at about four-mile intervals. Each manned checkpoint provides water, squash, snacks, first aid and mobile communications with the Memorial Hall for additional support. Hot breakfast rolls are available at the start. Walkers who retire are transported back to the start.

Locally made hot food and cakes are provided to all participants at the finish and are included in the entry fee. Certificates and cloth badges are issued to those who complete the challenge. The event follows LDWA guidelines as a challenge walk but is open to both walkers and runners. Minimum age is 14. Entry fee listed at the time of publication was £30 and the event is now full, so no new entries can be made. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
