The Winter Poppyline 2026

The Winter Poppyline is the tenth edition of a winter walking challenge in North Norfolk. The route starts and finishes at West Runton Scout Hut, Cromer Road, West Runton, NR27 9NQ (what3words ///aimlessly.prove.intersect). The event covers 50 miles with a maximum time allowance of 22.5 hours through undulating coastal and rural terrain in northeast Norfolk. Five checkpoints provide hot and cold drinks and a variety of food.

Entry is limited to 120 participants; when full, new entries are placed on a waiting list. Entry fees are listed separately for LDWA members and non-members. Entry is open to those aged 18 or older. There are no entries on the day and car parking at the venue is limited.

The event is a qualifying walk for the 2026 LDWA Hunnypot 100. Route descriptions, checkpoint opening and closing times, and GPX files will be published in the week before the event. Checkpoint times will be strictly adhered to and retirees must inform an event marshal; retirees will be returned to the event headquarters.

Essential equipment must be carried for winter conditions. Required items include a mug, route description and maps (Explorer 251 and 252; Landranger 133) or downloaded digital maps with spare power, mobile phone, compass, torch and spare batteries, emergency food, warm and waterproof clothing, hat and gloves, whistle, survival bag, reflective clothing and a first aid kit.

A small admin fee applies to cancellations before 30 January 2026; refunds are not offered after that date. If the event is cancelled by the organisers for reasons such as severe weather, refunds will be made less unavoidable costs. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
