Event

The Winter Poppyline 2026 is a winter challenge walking event held on 14-15 February 2026. The route covers 50 miles across the undulating coastal and rural landscape of north-east Norfolk. The event starts and finishes at West Runton Scout Hut, Cromer Road, West Runton, Norfolk, NR27 9NQ (what3words: aimlessly.prove.intersect). There are five checkpoints on the route that provide hot and cold drinks and a variety of food.

Practical information

The event is held in winter conditions and includes a significant amount of night navigation for many entrants. Participants must carry route description and maps (paper: Explorer 251 & 252 or Landranger 133, or downloaded digital maps with spare power), a charged mobile phone with backup power, torch and spare batteries, compass, mug, warm and waterproof clothing, spare trousers if wearing shorts, 500 ml water bottle, emergency food, first aid kit, whistle, survival bag and reflective clothing. The organisers note limited parking and encourage car sharing. Checkpoint opening and closing times will be published before the event and will be strictly adhered to.

Entries and fees

Entry is limited to 120 places; when full new entries are placed on a waiting list. Entry fees are £38 for LDWA members and £45 for non-members. Entry is not available on the day. Take on scenic trails through private woodlands and rolling fields at Stody Estate with 4, 8 and 12 km options, chip timing, eco friendly medals and event photos. Enjoy a post run refreshment zone serving bacon rolls, cakes and hot drinks.
