The Roman Ramble

The Roman Ramble is a trail running event held at Billingford Lakes and Country Park in Norfolk. The event offers multiple distance options, structured as a timed lap event. Participants can choose from a variety of distances.

Available distances include:

  • 10 km
  • 15 km
  • Half Marathon (approx. 21.1 km)
  • Heavy Half Marathon
  • Full Marathon (approx. 42.2 km)
  • Ultra Marathon

The heavy half marathon standard distance is 5 laps, with the option to change to 6 or 7 laps on event day. The ultra marathon standard is 9 laps, which participants can also increase depending on the time available, for example up to 12 laps.

The course is a trail run that includes a mix of tarmac paths, grasslands, and rugged trails. The route will predominantly follow the existing "Roman Ramble" Trail.

Parking is included with race entry. An aid station is located at the base camp, providing food and water. This is a cup-less event, so participants must bring their own cup or bottle for refills. All finishers receive a bespoke event medal. A "Lucky Dip" medal option is also available, where finishers can choose from a selection of previous medals. A 50 mile winter walking challenge through the coastal and rural landscape of North Norfolk with five checkpoints and strict equipment requirements. Entry is limited and a waiting list operates once the 120 places are full.

Trail marathon and half marathon along Marriott's Way on 15 February 2026 with optional coach transport. Entries are limited to 400 and 5% of each entry supports East Anglian Air Ambulance.

This festival offers a range of distances on a looped course through Thetford Forest. With an aid station on the lap and complimentary refreshments, it's a self-contained event. Part of your entry fee supports the forest's upkeep.
